Bear and Baby:

Bear is a male (we named him that but it turned out that his real name is Burton) chow/lab
mix and his girlfriend is named Baby accord to her tag. (She's a small chow mix too and has
blue chow tongue) He is about 60 pounds and she is about 30lbs and they are both very
sweet. The little one is very attached to the bigger guy so we did not want to split them up.

They have found a forever home
together in Brick New Jersey close to the water. They are
going to be with a wonderful family that has two kids and the grandmother is a former
Vet-Tech that is very knowledgeable about dogs. They have a nice big fenced in back yard and
will have some guinea pig friends....We are so excited about having found them such a
wonderful home.

Their brief history is that they belonged to a family in Millburn who had been letting them out
and then claiming that they escaped when they would pick them up at the dog pound time and
time again.

When they were found by a friend, she brought them to the shelter were they had been before.
She found out that they had micro-chips and when the owner was contacted she came to the
shelter (drunk) and wanted to leave the dogs there until she found out that she had to pay the
shelter to take them.

She was going to take them again but our friend did not want to let her have them. The owner
said she wanted to call the police and they told her to call the police (since she was drunk)
but the woman thought it best to put gum in her mouth and drive off.

So we took them away and placed them a foster's home who then had them for three weeks.
When the foster could no longer keep them, we were in a panic! We did find them a place for
but only for one night. We then had no choice but to put them up in a boarding facility and after
looking around we decided to take them to
K-9 Resorts in Fanwood, NJ. When we went to
check them in we had a wonderful surprise! A sizable donation had been made by Lisa and
Alex Skowronski that was enough to keep the dogs cared for until we could figure out our next
move.

As luck would have it, the phone rang that very night and the family from Brick said that they
wanted the dogs. It was a wonderful turn of events and we are very happy that it looked like it
was working out.

When we went to take them to Brick on Saturday, we were very nervous.

K-9 Resorts was wonderful. They helped us in many ways including giving the dogs a bath
just before they went to see their prospective forever home. The dogs looked great and
smelled even better....It was surely a generous and wonderful gift!

The dogs were great when they got there! They showed lots of love the second they got there
and they won their way into their new owners hearts with ease. It was almost like they knew
they were on stage!

We have learned so much from this first placement including the need to have a string of
fosters lined up, the need to have a back-up boarding facility and the need to stay calm and
have faith!

A big thanks to everyone who helped out including Eileen Mooney who fostered them for three
weeks, Dawn and Gabes Stelljas who were our last minute fosters when Eileen needed to
leave for vacation, K-9 Resorts who cared for them and got them ready for their big debut, Lisa
and Alex Skowronski for giving us the financial means to care for them, Suzanne Shaps who
pulled out the last minute adoption contract and Christine Carducci who ran around getting
the paperwork for the dogs so that everything could run smoothly.

We will be visiting Burton and Baby soon to get an update. We'll let you know how it goes.
